1-st day. “The old traditions and ceremonies of Karelians”
You will have an opportunity to visit the Karelian hut (“izba”) recreated in the National Museum of the Republic of Karelia. There you will learn about the traditions of Karelians in different historical periods. You will learn about the rights and duties of family members, about amulets of a person and home, traditional medicine, children toys and Karelian cuisine. You will try to iron the underwear with the help of a ruble, guess the ancient riddles, make a charm that will protect you from all disease.
Kizhi Island is the architectural landmark of Karelia.You can see the monuments of wooden architecture: old houses, built according to a special type - "house-purse", barns, mills and, of course, the world-famous northern temples. The center of the famous Kizhi churchyard ensemble is the twenty-two-headed Church of the Transfiguration steeped in many legends. In the neighboring Pokrovskaya church you will see the saved masterpieces of Karelian iconography. The guide will show and tell you about the ancient church of the 14th century – The Resurrection of Lazarus of Murom Church. You will enjoy walking along the island and fabulous bell-ringing.
2-nd day. Traditions of Vepsians (Veps).
The historical village Sholtozero is situated on the south-west shores of Onega Lake, 80 km from Petrozavodsk. This village is the capital of Veps world (Veps are indigenous Karelian communities, descended from the ancient tribe «ves’», who lived in pre-Christian times.)
You will have an amazing opportunity to connect with the history of Vepsians, visiting The Rjurik Lonin Museum of Veps Ethnography in Sholtozero.
3-rd day. The Brands of Central Karelia
You will visit the Assumption Church, Kivach Falls, Sampo Mountain, Girvas Volcano, Marcial Waters Resort.
